Rose Elizabeth was born and raised in San Antonio, TX where she has spent her entire life. Since birth, Rose has dealt with severe hearing loss and has found solace in communicating her innermost feelings through art. Being physically disabled and autistic, art was the only thing that she could physically handle doing and it quickly became her sole special interest (an intense highly focused interest seen in autistic people). Rose is versatile with any medium, but prefers to stick with acrylic paint as it provides the rich and vibrant colors often seen in her images. In 2016, Rose joined the Contemporary at Blue Star's MOSAIC program where she closely worked under the mentorship of Chicano artist, Alex Rubio. After a four year long break that began in 2020, Rose now works full time as a gallery artist and has been published in various zines.
As a partially deaf autistic woman who was nonverbal for most of my childhood, art was my only way to speak with others. I feel so strongly and so passionately that it gets overwhelming and I struggle to communicate what I’m feeling. No matter the emotion, whether positive or negative, I feel it with such an intensity most neurotypical people don’t seem to understand. I use vibrant saturated colors to further display the intensity of my ardor. I want my art to grab whoever is nearby and say “Look at me, this is the only language I know. Please understand me.”
